Type in the Chevrolet Collection. Type locality: United States.

Synonymy

None. Crotch (1873) did not include this species in his revision, and Matheson (1912) considered it a junior synonym of Haliplus triopsis Say without comment, perhaps following Leng's (1920) catalog. Roberts (1913) did not comment on Haliplus pantherinus, presumably also considering it a synonym of triopsis. Zimmermann (1924) again recognized the distinctness of this species.

Canada: Ontario and Quebec; United States: Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Marylans, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
