Haliplus rugosus Roberts 1913:103
Type specimens
Type possibly in the American Museum of Natural History. Type locality: "California" (it is unclear whether this locality refers to the state of California, or to Baja California).
Synonymy
None.
Distribution
Roberts (1912) described this species from a single specimen labelled "California". It is unclear whether this locality refers to the state of California (United States), or to Baja California (Mexico). Leech (1948) included it in the fauna of Baja based upon a report from J. Balfour-Browne that a specimen in the British Museum (Natural History) was labelled "Lower California, N. Boundary, Godman-Salvin coll." Leech and Chandler (1956) included it in the California fauna based upon this same record. Neither Zimmermann (1924) nor Wallis (1933) saw this species.
