4 August 1995
Dear DAPTF Central Division Members:
I wanted to send this note around to keep you updated about the DAPTF and related issues, especially those affecting us here in the Central Division. First of all, I want to let everyone know that there will not be a fall meeting of the Central Division DAPTF this year. The main reason is that I will be busy attending the 2nd annual meeting of the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP) in Ontario, Canada. I hope that others from our region will be attending too. As you may recall from my first mailing, The broad goal of a North American Amphibian Survey is to:
"Develop a statistically defensible program to monitor the distributions and abundance of amphibians in North America, with applicability at the state, provincial, ecoregional, and continental scales."
Also recall that the 1995 field season was dedicated to validation of several monitoring techniques. Now that the 1995 field season is coming to a close, its time to assess the results and plan for the implementation of long term monitoring. That is the goal of the fall meeting in Ontario.
I am not sure who received copies of the meeting announcement. Therefore, the second goal of this mailing is to distribute copies of the registration form and call for papers for the 1995 NAAMP meeting.
The third goal of this communication is to get feedback from Central Division members concerning interest in an early winter Central Division meeting, say January, 1996. If you are interested in meeting at this time to discuss research in our Division or the results of the NAAMP meeting, please let me know. In addition, if you have any interest in hosting such a meeting, I would be very interested in hearing from you.
Finally, I would like to encourage everyone who has an E-mail address to send it to me. Currently, I have only about 50 E-mail addresses (out of more than 250 members) so I know there are more of you out there that are connected. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Christopher A. Phillips
