Mike Moneypenny (in red), an atmospheric modeller, gave the NCR-148 group a tour of the National Weather Service Forecast Office. The NWS has increased the lead time for broadcasting watches and warnings of severe weather to the public from 2 minutes (1970's) to 12 minutes because of doppler radar. They are working with the North American Plant Disease Forecasting Center to develop algorithms to detect insect migration through the doppler radar system.
