Responsibilities
I am
the Center Director, which means most of my time is spent dealing with
administrative duties. My research and outreach interests include various
aspects of biological control of insects and weed pests, management of
invasive species, and the biology of parasitic and predaceous insects.
Projects
Some current and recent projects in our lab include assessing
the habitat and host selection processes of parasites of stemborers; understanding
the physiological and immunological interactions between braconid parasites
and stemborers; biological control of alfalfa blotch leafminer; biological
control of purple loosestrife; non-target impacts of transgenic crops;
and studying the biology of garlic mustard and teasel.
Other Activities
I teach a course on biological control at the University of Illinois and
am an instructor for the Midwest Institute for Biological Control. I am
on the Governing Board of the International Organization for Biological
Control; a member of the NCR-125 Regional Committee on Biological Control;
and I am the President-Elect of the North Central Branch of the Entomological
Society of America.
