Over 38,000 books and bound journals providing national and international coverage of all aspects of natural history. Strong subject areas include:
entomology
botany
herpetology

wildlife ecology and management
The INHS Library receives over 600 journals on subscription or exchange. Most journal runs go back to volume one. The library also maintains subject files on natural history topics.
Rare books - Several hundred valuable and historic monographs are owned by the library and may be used by appointment.
Archives - The library keeps copies of all Illinois Natural History Survey publications.
Folios - The library has a large selection of oversized books with detailed and beautiful drawings of birds, butterflies, wildflowers and many other subjects.
The library on-line catalog provides access to the holdings of the entire University of Illinois Library system. This database contains over 8 million items and 91,000 subscriptions. Several electronic indexes, such as Current Contents and CARL Uncover, may also be accessed through this catalog.
The library maintains a database of over 6000 articles written by Survey researchers. This database dates back to 1903 and also includes special publications and conference papers.
Wildlife Worldwide, Species Information Library, Audubon's Birds and Mammals, and Index Kewensis are available on CD-ROM at the INHS Library.
