Onion Maggot -Delia antigua

Identification
• Maggots are white, legless larvae up to 1/4" long.
• Adult fly is 1/4" long and similar in appearance to a house fly.
Damage
• Larvae tunnel in the roots of radish, cabbage, broccoli, turnip,
onion, and other vegetables.
Management
• Window screening over plants or on soil along plants reduces egg-laying.
• Insecticides applied at planting time are also effective.
Other Information
• These flies have several generations throughout much of the growing
season.
• Infested onions will not store well.
