Identification
• Cucumber beetles are yellowish, 1/4" long with black stripes (a) or spots (b).
• The striped cucumber beetle has a black underside.

Damage
• Cucumber beetles eat holes and cause window-feeding in leaves of cucumber, squash, watermelon, and other vine crops. (c)
• They transmit cucurbit wilt to cucumber, which typically causes the plant to wilt and die in

midseason.
• Beetles are commonly found feeding on flower pollen and may damage flower petals.
• The larvae feed on the roots of various plants without causing serious damage.

Management
• Cover plants with screening or row covers until blooming begins.
• Spray or dust with insecticide, particularly at plant emergence and at the seedling stage.
