Big-eyed Bug (Geocorid)

Hemiptera (Heteroptera): Lygaeidae

Identification
• Big-eyed bugs have large eyes, may be up to 1/4 inch long, are oval in shape, somewhat flattened, and may be tan to gray in color.

Host Range
• They are mostly generalist predators and eat mites, leafhoppers, aphids, other small insects, and insect eggs.

Life Cycle
• Big-eyed bugs have incomplete metamorphosis and may have 1-2 generations per year.

Other Information
• Although important predators, Geocorids may supplement their diets with plant sap or feed on seeds. This helps them survive when few pests are on plants.
