The Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS) is a project managed by USDA-APHIS-PPQ that combines the efforts and resources of PPQ with those of State agricultural organizations and universities. The CAPS program provides a cooperative agreement mechanism to fund domestic surveys of harmful or economically significant plant pests and weeds that have eluded the first-line inspections.

The Critical Trends Assessment Program (CTAP) is a long-term endeavor, which monitors the condition of forests, wetlands, grasslands, and streams throughout the state of Illinois. This project seeks to assess changes in ecological conditions as well as to serve as a baseline from which to compare regional and site-specific patterns throughout Illinois. This program is unique because it is the first-ever attempt at a statewide comprehensive assessment undertaken by a state natural resource organization (Illinois Department of Natural Resources).

The Illinois Natural Areas Inventory (INAI) Update provides a set of information about high quality natural areas, habitats of endangered species, and other significant natural features. Information from the INAI is used to guide and support land acquisition and protection programs by all levels of government as well as by private landowners and conservation organizations.

Certain federal conservation programs require each state to develop a comprehensive wildlife conservation plan. These plans, developed with cooperation from conservation partners and input from the public, will set a course for stewardship of all wildlife species, with special attention given to species in greatest need of conservation. For the implementation phase the CWCP has been renamed to the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan.
