Family: Acroceridae
General Notes
The family members are characterized by three-segmented antennae, small head, large calypter, thorax often humpbacked, and body without bristles. All known species are internal parasites of true spiders. Eggs are laid on vegetation away from spider hosts, first instar larvae crawl or jump onto spiders. (575 species listed in Manual of Nearctic Diptera)
