Widespread use of the Internet has tremendously increased access to collections, including those at INHS. Many of the collections databases can be searched via the World Wide Web. Staff are also working to link the INHS Geographic Information System to allow remote users to produce maps showing species distributions based on up-to-the-minute collection data. Although this capability is currently limited to the amphibian and reptile collection and a small part of the insect collection, mapable data sets are increasing rapidly. Check the INHS Web site at http://www.inhs.uiuc.edu/inhshome.html regularly for updates.
