Activities I enjoy studying and educating others about the wonders of the natural world. I strive to find ways to lessen my impact on the world and live more in tune with nature.

Research
As part of the Wetland Science Program, I study wetland communities and their provision of ecosystem services, particularly for wildlife and water quality, in human-altered landscapes. In Illinois, two of the greatest threats to wetlands are agriculture and urban development. I am interested in methods for improving the relationship between agriculture and adjacent natural communities. Some of my past research focused on private landowner incentives for conservation through USDA programs. I am also interested in urban development in terms of wetland protection and stormwater management. I would be interested in projects to improve urban wetlands as a recreational and educational resource.
