Pomes The most common type of Pome is an apple.
If you cut an apple through the middle, you can see the different parts of a pome.A pome has thin skin and lots of fleshy tissue. We eat this fleshy tissue.
Pomes are different from other fruits in that the fleshy part of a pome does not come from the ovary, it comes from the accessory tissue.
On the inside of an apple, you can see a thin papery layer around the seeds. This layer is where the ovary begins, and the seeds are inside the core.
In some apples, you can still see the dried flower parts at the base!
