Fruits

A fruit is simply the ripened ovary of a plant.

There are many fruits that scientists classify as fruits that you may never have guessed to be fruits!

Fleshy Fruits

Flesh

1. Exocarp - outermost layer

2. Mesocarp -middle layer- this layer is often the fleshy part and is juicy

3. Endocarp - inside layer that contains the seeds

We generally eat the fleshy part of the fruit, which is usually the exocarp or mesocarp.
But there are exceptions, depending on what you like, of course!

Plant biologists classify several different types of fleshy fruits. These classifications include:

1. Drupes

2. Druplets

3. Berries

   a True Berries

   b Pepo

   c. Hesperidium

4. Pomes

5. Accessory Fruits

6. Multiple Fruits
