ROOTS

Roots serve to anchor a plant into the soil and supply the plant with water and nutrients.

Taproots - the central main roots of a plant that extend vertically into the soil.

Some taproots are specialized roots that store large amounts of food for the plant.

The plant consumes the stored food when it flowers and produces fruit.

If we want to eat these things, we must harvest them before the plant flowers

Can you think of any vegetables you eat that are taproots?

Carrots
Turnips
