- Remarks: "Lea
received this shell from Dr. Dunker under the name of Castalia
sulcata Krauss. Believing it to be a Unio, he placed it in
that genus, and the name sulcatus being preoccupied in Unio,
he changed it as above." (Simpson 1900:867).

or is this a Holotype by monotypy? This species was placed in
Castalia by both Simpson (1900) and Haas (1969). An examination
of the type clearly shows it to be synonymous with Castaliella
sulcata (Krauss, 1849), both of which were described from
northern South America.
