NOMENCLATURA OLIGOCHAETOLOGICA - Supplementum Quartum [N.O.S.Q.]

In late 2000, Dr. John W. Reynolds (Oligochaetology Laboratory, Kitchener, Ontario) initiated collaboration with Mark J. Wetzel to compile and publish the fourth supplement (N.O.S.Q.) in this series — to update (Addenda Editioni Primae) and correct (Corrigenda Editioni Primae) the generic, subgeneric, specific and infra-specific names of oligochaetes published in the first three supplements (N.O.S.P., N.O.S.S., N.O.S.T.) We include new families, genera, subgenera, and species described as new to science (and published in the peer-reviewed literature) through 31 December 2006.

Genera are assigned to 36 families recognized in the third supplement (N.O.S.T.) plus two new families added in this fourth supplement; the detailed Latin definitions can also be found in N.O.S.T. A summary of taxa entries for the first four volumes is presented as follows: [families / genera / subgenera / species]: N.O.: 24 / 573 / 0 / 5,753; N.O.S.P.: 4 / 47 / 0 / 401; N.O.S.S.: 7 / 73 / 34 / 694; N.O.S.T.: 1 / 46 / 6 / 406.

As of December 2006, two new families, 75 new genera, 25 new subgenera, and 1,450 new species of oligochaetes are included in N.O.S.Q. Several new genera and approximately 100 new species have yet to be entered prior to finalizing this volume. This fourth supplement will likely be published as an Illinois Natural History Survey Special Publication, in 2008; the projected cost for a copy will be USD $26.00 (~20 Euros). When published NOSQ will be available for purchase (in U.S. dollars only) by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only), money order, or personal check drawn upon a U.S. bank account. Information for ordering this fourth supplement will be posted on this website as soon as it has been published.

To complete this fourth supplement (and begin compilation of the second edition [see below]), we ask colleagues to inform us of omissions or errors observed in NO, NOSP, NOSS, and NOST, and to send reprints of their recent, nomenclaturally relevant publications to both authors. Accounts for new taxa published after 31 December 2006 will be posted on a web-based list (linked from the navigator bar at the bottom of this page).

Nomenclatura Oligochaetologica, Second Edition. Soon after publication of NOSQ, we will begin compilation of Nomenclatura Oligochaetologica, Second Edition, projected for publication in 2010. This second edition of NO will integrate all accounts (and corrigenda) published in NO and its four supplements (1976-2006), and accounts for new taxa published after 31 December 2007.
