This species, a troglobite (or stygobite), is currently (early 2004 [in case I forget to update this!]) being considered for inclusion on the Illinois threatened and endangered species list, in part because it occurs in only one cave in Illinois. It is not being considered for federal listing. It is known from about 12 caves in Missouri.
